32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

By St. Pius X | News

The readings today force us to reflect on the meaning of life and the purpose of death.  Going through life, we meet death in its many forms – slow, sudden, young and old, after an accident or prolonged illness. The path of life leads to the grave.  It’s the one appointment we cannot cancel.  There […]

3st Sunday in Ordinary Time

By St. Pius X | News

This is a delightfully touching gospel story about the boundless love that God has for sinners.  The message that Jesus is trying to get across to us is that nobody is beyond redemption.  There are no limits to the possibility of salvation offered by Jesus.  God’s grace is able to turn a life upside down […]

30th Sunday in Ordinary Time

By St. Pius X | News

In today’s gospel, the Lord presents us with a picture of two people at prayer in the temple, one a pharisee, the other a tax collector.  Although this parable needs no explanation, it does merit some personal reflection if we are to apply the message that it contains to our lives.  This Gospel puts into […]

29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

By St. Pius X | News

Jesus urges us to pray continually and never to grow discouraged.  Prayer is talking to God, and when we pray we are to speak our hearts in a real human way, making use of the style which suits us best.  We need to be under no pressure to be other than what we are and […]

Ingratitude is perhaps the most common of all human failings.  Nothing is so hurtful as to be taken for granted without a word spoken in thanks or praise.  What causes the most pain is the neglect and coldness of those for whom we have done our best.  One of the most satisfying experiences in life […]

27th Sunday in Ordinary Time

By St. Pius X | News

As they approached Jerusalem, the apostles sense the mounting opposition to the master’s mission and feel isolated.  They are tempted to despair.  They ask Jesus to increase their faith that they will be able to remain steadfast in their following.  Jesus in his reply to their request emphasizes that a faith that is deep-rooted can […]

26th Sunday in Ordinary Time

By St. Pius X | News

There is quite a picture painted in today’s readings.  The people to whom Christ addressed this story were poor by our standards.  It had a message for them and it has one for us.  This is a gospel call to be aware of the needs of all our brothers and sisters.  If we love, we […]

25th Sunday in Ordinary Time

By St. Pius X | News

In light of what Jesus has to say concerning wealth, everyone of us has to do some hard thinking and sincere praying about our attitude towards material possessions.  The gospel is especially warning us against making money the goal of our existence.  Money plays such an important role in our daily lives that it influences […]

24th Sunday in Ordinary Time

By St. Pius X | News

The Gospel today is a classic passage on forgiveness.  In it the focus is on the Father, in order to tell us something about God.  We are in a family relationship with God whose kindness is beyond words.  In this story we feel the overpowering might of the mercy of God, who withholds no sign […]
