On Sunday, April 22nd at the 10:30am Mass, Bishop Richard Grecco sealed 42 youth with the Gift of the Holy Spirit in the sacrament of Confirmation. Five more candidates from the parish will be confirmed in neighboring parishes over the next month. These Grade 9 and 10 students had been preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation since mid-September 2017. They attended 12 sessions last Fall using the video-based Confirmation preparation program “Decision Point”. The candidates participated in Enrollment Masses during the weekend masses in early January and parishioners took their names to pray for them and their families as they prepared for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Beginning in January, the group divided into six  classes to meet bi-weekly using the RCL Benzinger “Confirmation” program. In early March, our Confirmation candidates joined with candidates from Holy Redeemer Parish to participate in an afternoon Confirmation retreat lead by Sr Sue Kidd and volunteers from the UPEI Chaplaincy Centre. The retreat finished with participation at the 4pm Saturday Mass followed by pizza and pop in the MacKenzie Room.Candidates who were not able to participate in that retreat, attended a day-long NET retreat at the Basilica on Easter Monday.

During their preparation, each of the Confirmation candidates participated in a service project, reaching out to and serving the community, either individually or as a group.  Some of their projects included: serving as volunteer camp counsellors at last summer’s Vacation Bible Camp, volunteering for a half day at the Food Bank, assisting in the Y’s Men’s Food Drive, counting and rolling coin from Holy Childhood Association donations, leading Children’s Liturgy at the Sunday Masses, assembling the First Communion banner, volunteering with the school breakfast programs, an outreach project providing care packages to the homeless and serving in the community as tutors for hockey, dance and with special needs students. On Saturday, April 21st the candidates gathered for a rehearsal and to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
