First Holy Communion celebrations

On Saturday, May 5th and Sunday, May 6th at the three weekend Masses, 40 younger parishioners celebrated their First Holy Communion. Two more children will celebrate their First Eucharist in the coming weeks.

Mostly Grade 2 students, the children had been preparing for the sacrament of the Eucharist since late September 2017. Preparations included 24 lessons using the “Be My Disciples” level 2 catechetical program, a Church tour, “Class is Mass” and  lessons preparing the children for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. There were also two meetings with parents to share Church teaching on these sacraments and provide tips to help prepare the children. Some of the children continued to participate in children’s liturgy at the 10:30am Mass throughout the year as well.

Congratulations to each of  the children who joined the parish family at the Lord’s table for the first time.

Thank you to the parish catechists: Brenna and Karen Duffy, Leigh MacDonald-Graham, Marlene Wisener, Idalia Livingstone, Tracy Campbell and Jerry McCabe, for sharing our Catholic faith with our younger parishioners and helping to prepare them for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Thank you also to the parents, godparents, grandparents and families for passing on and nurturing the faith of the First Communicants.

We will continue to pray for them as they celebrate their second, third and 100th Holy Communion. May the celebration of the Holy Eucharist always be a priority for you and your families.
