First Holy Communion celebration

On Sunday, May 3rd at the 10:30 am Mass, 14 younger parishioners will celebrate their First Holy Communion. Several more children will celebrate their First Eucharist in the coming weeks. The pews in the centre section of the Church will be reserved for the First Communion children and their families.

Mostly Grade 2 students, the children had been preparing for the sacrament of the Eucharist since late September. Preparations included 24 lessons using the “Be My Disciples” level 2 catechetical program, and lessons preparing the children for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. There were also two meetings with parents to share Church teaching on these sacraments and provide tips to help prepare the children. Some of the children continued to participate in children’s liturgy at the 10:30am Mass throughout the year as well.

Congratulations to each of the children who will join the parish family at the Lord’s table for the first time.

Thank you to the parish catechists: Matthew Handrhan and Eli Grant, for sharing our Catholic faith with our younger parishioners and helping to prepare them for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Thank you also to the parents, godparents, grandparents and family members for passing on and nurturing the faith of the First Communicants.

We will continue to pray for them as they celebrate their second, third and 100th Holy Communion. May the celebration of the Holy Eucharist always be a priority for you and your families.
